Social Media in the Classroom

Should we use it?  Personally, I think we are in a society where we almost have to use social media in the classroom. I think it is beneficial to use it because we can use it to communicate with parents and for interaction with our students. It's important that we are able to use social media in the appropriate way and with students who are mature enough to understand the limitations and expectations when using social media in the classroom.      Collaborative Tools: I think some of the most beneficial tools to use online are google drive because it is a good way to keep students work organized. I also think using the tools to make graphic organizers will be beneficial. The students will be able to keep things more organized and legible for the teacher. Also, I would love to use an app to connect with the parents such as Classroom Dojo. This would be a great way to keep the parents updated with how the child is doing during class.      Final thoughts? After taking this course

Multiple Medias in the Classroom

What is multimedia?  Should we use it in the classroom?  Multimedia can be extremely beneficial for students. I think that it can be a fun interesting way to keep students involved in what we are learning. We have to remember that the world is changing and students are being used to having access to technology all the time, so why not use it in the classroom? It's important for us to do things to keep the students interested in the lesson. I personally have really liked the use of multimedia for students. I think there are so many different formats and ways to use it in the classroom. I don't think there should be an issue if you choose to use this with the right age group. I think it could be a little tricky at first for some students, but mostly everyone will get the hang of it and love it. It's important to keep things fun and engaging during school and this is the perfect way to do so! Different types:

Apps In The Classroom

Using Apps in Class:  I think we all know more than anyone else that technology is evolving and will continue to evolve. Students of all ages use cell phones, tablets, and computers. It's important that we teach them the right way to use their technology in school by incorporating the right apps into our classroom.  What Apps Should we Use? As future educators it's important for us to know what apps work for us and what apps we think are the best. Some of my personal favorites for the classroom are:  Epic - this is one of my personal favorites! I love all the tools it gives students and different materials there is access to for students  Padlet - this is a wonderful app for communication. It gives students the chance to comment back on forth. It is very good discussion app for students.  NaNoWriMo's Young Writers - an app where students can set goals and are encouraged to write!  It truly would be beneficial for everyone to consider using apps in their classrooms. I think

Digital Graphic Organizers

Graphic Organizers and what they are:   I think we've all needed to organize our thoughts one way or another and personally, I think a graphic organizer is the easiest for me. It's a good way to connect your thoughts and make connections in front of you.  Creating them online?  Personally, I found it pretty easy to create a graphic organizer online. I had never done it before, but I seemed to catch on and make it make sense. I like to believe that I can be pretty good with technology, however, I'm not sure this is something I loved. Yes, it was easy and it was doable. BUT, no I did not like it or prefer it. I found it a little more difficult to connect the dots and make connections where I wanted to. I just think for me personally it is much easier to write it down on paper.  Digital Graphic Organizers in the Classroom:  I can see a tremendous benefit to using digital GOs in the classroom. I think it is always great to incorporate technology into the classroom because wel

Digital Audio

Digital Audio Why do we use it?  We may use digital audio for many reasons in our classroom. We might listen to age appropriate podcasts or audio books. This may give the students the chance to hear better or maybe it'll get them more engaged in a topic.  How would I use it in the classroom?  Personally, I feel like I would use audio books a lot in my classroom! I think it is a good way to keep students engaged and interested in a story. I believe sometimes students find more it more interesting when someone else is reading to them instead of reading to themselves or the teacher reading. I also think when you listen to a story with different voices as the characters it gives the students the chance to visualize and come up with their own image of each character.  The audio book I chose to insert is Charlotte's Web because well, it's a classic that I think we've all read before! https://youtu.be/TgsD-xdJdoM

How do images influence us?  We've all heard the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words." Two people can look at the same exact image and see two completely different things! I think we often use images to get students ideas and to get their brains thinking. I think we use images to influence the way our students will look at something. We can use different images to get children to express their feelings. As teachers we should be able to use different images in our classroom to get our students talking and thinking. We can use different images to get the students to talk about different topics or feelings as well. As the teacher it is our job to use the images to influence the conversations that we can to take place in our classroom.  Personal Thoughts?  I think teaching students with images can be extremely beneficial in the classroom! I think sometimes students need another way to communicate and express how they are thinking. This can be done through images or

E-Books

Ebooks?  We all knew there would come a time when everything would switch to being all virtual. We know that kids love having access to tablets and the internet, so why not find ways to educate them with it? Ebooks can be downloaded from the computer and read online. These are books that kids have access to all the time when they are connected to the internet.  Personal Experience?  From the website, Epic, I was able to download and read the following books:  Hank the Pet Sitter  Can I Bring Wooly to the Library, Ms. Reeder The Three Little Pigs Harold and the Purple Crayon  Little Red Riding Hood  I enjoyed being able to read all of these books online and didn't have any issues getting them to download. The pictures were good quality and the story still looked like a real book. I think that is was a pretty simple website to use and I was able to navigate it and find the books without any issues. I do see how this could become an issue for some because many website require you to
