How do images influence us?

We've all heard the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words." Two people can look at the same exact image and see two completely different things! I think we often use images to get students ideas and to get their brains thinking. I think we use images to influence the way our students will look at something. We can use different images to get children to express their feelings. As teachers we should be able to use different images in our classroom to get our students talking and thinking. We can use different images to get the students to talk about different topics or feelings as well. As the teacher it is our job to use the images to influence the conversations that we can to take place in our classroom.

Personal Thoughts?

I think teaching students with images can be extremely beneficial in the classroom! I think sometimes students need another way to communicate and express how they are thinking. This can be done through images or pictures. They can find different images and connect to them. I think making connections and finding ways to talk about your feelings is SUPER important and can be done when influenced in the proper way through images.

Apps that support teaching with images?

I used Phonto to make my images. I used this app to add a quote over an images I already had downloaded to my phone. The process of doing this was extremely simple. This is something any could do and was a free app that I downloaded to my phone! If I were teaching I think this would be a good app to have downloaded onto students ipads. I would give them the opportunity to find their own image and put some type of quote on it. I think this would be an interesting and fun way for students to express themselves and what they see through images.

  1. Hello Olivia,
I completely agree with you. I thought you did a great job on this blog. I strongly agree with the fact that using pictures can get students communicating in a different way and increasing their thinking. I always loved reading books that had pictures as a young student.
    Good Job!

  2. I really liked the picture that you choose to put at the top of this blog post. I strongly agree with you that using pictures in the classroom gets students to communicate and think differently than they would if they were using words.
